Flemings Steak House, a nationwide chain, has recently added two wine cocktails to their list. The first of the two cocktails my companion and I sampled was the Sonoma Fog. It’s a blend of Roth Vodka, sweet & sour, Cointreau, and Bonny Doon Vin de Glaciere. Personally, I love the Bonny Doon Vin de Glaciere dessert wine, so I was very curious to try it in a cocktail. The result is a sweet and fruity martini. You can definitely taste the wine, but little separates this cocktail from other sweet martinis. This is a great cocktail for someone who would like to mask the taste of alcohol but is looking for something more sophisticated than an Appletini
Next up was the Napa Sunset. The name doesn’t do this drink justice as it’s a mix of Roth Vodka, Grand Marnier, Briottet Créme de Cassis, and Fonseca Bin 27 Port, finished with a Red Diamond Merlot. Yeah, it sounds like a hangover in a martini glass (and it probably is) but this was one of the most creative concoctions I have ever set my lips on. It basically tastes like a lighter, easier to drink port with a raisony-cocktail punch.
Both of these drinks are garnished with frozen grapes. In my book, these get an A+ for creativity, especially coming from a national chain restaurant. I was very impressed with what I tasted and would be happy to come back and drink more of them. Even at $12 apiece, I would suggest any wino to try these Vinotini’s.
We also stayed to sample the sparkling wine cocktails – which basically turned into a Star War’s fest.
