Riot in Review

by Laura DuffyOctober 1, 2009

The second edition of Wine Riot was held on September 25 and 26 at the John J. Moakley Courthouse. If you were one of the thousands who attended, you swished, sip and savored lots of delicious wine from around the world. If you missed it (fool!), here’s what happened:

A full mouth is a happy mouth! Attendees to Wine Riot sipped bottles from all over the world, but the Second Glass couldn’t let people walk away with a quenched thirst but lingering pains of hunger. Mouth-watering concoctions from three local restaurants paired perfectly with the 250 wine varieties. Tavolo offered creamy polenta topped with ground beef and a sweet tomato sauce, as well as cheesy lasagna and meatballs. The Savant Project served up chips and spicy apple salsa, while the Daily Catch had all the fresh seafood you’d expect, and a meatball stuffed with a ring of calamari.

Do you spit or swallow? In keeping with The Second Glass tradition, Mike Ritter of Ritterbin Photography came equipped with props and outrageous wine-themed signs for guests’ amusement. People draped ridiculous scarves and stuck fake mustaches to their faces as they came up with goofy poses. All shots can be viewed on The Second Glass website.

Any attendee serious about gettin’ to know what was actually in their GoVino plastic glass, listened and drank at one of Crash Courses. Speakers such as Joseph Carr of Joseph Carr Winery, Alex DeWinter of Grill 23, David Milligan of David Milligan Selections poured and gabbed about specific wines as students sipped, swayed and joked in their chairs.

Our fantastic sponsors provided guests with information, entertainment and complimentary coat checks. Hob Nob had their own lounge for anybody just looking to hang out and kick off their heels. And if you couldn’t find your boyfriend, he’d probably snuck off to play Guitar Hero on a Hob Nob provided TV!

Rockin' out

Garment Valet grabbed guests’ coats, making navigation of the Riot all the less cumbersome. Gordon’s Fine Wines and Liquors delivered purchased wine bottles to buyers and the Zipcar table filled attendees ears with their amazing “wheels when you want them” phenomenon.

Big thanks are owed to everyone who made Wine Riot possible! And if you just can’t wait to get more of the Second Glass, come to the October Crash Courses. More vino, anyone?
