Need to bring something to this year’s 4th of July cookout? Instead of a bottle of one of our summer picks, pick up a few of GoVino’s tulip-shaped, stemless wine glasses. They look like crystal but act like plastic, made from shatterproof thermoplastic polymer resin (you might forget that name after your first glass), taking a lot of the worry out of rowdy cookouts and roof parties. They were initially created for professional salespeople to use while showcasing their wines, during situations that didn’t make do for suitable stemware. They’ve since made their way into the hands of pro winos and novices alike, this sudden admiration making us wonder if stemware is going out of style.
With a moat at the bottom that allows for swirling and a thumb notch that’s as decorous as it is handy, these glasses don’t need stems to walk the walk. That clever thumb indentation also marks six ounces, which takes the guessing work out of the pour, as well as making slippage all the less likely. But if a break does happen (with durability like this, you’d really have to try), another one will only cost a few dollars, a definite steal.
Sold in packs of four for $12, our Boston-based winos can head to Brix to cop their own set. Everyone else can visit govinowine.com for lists of retailers or to purchase GoVino glasses online.

This is pretty cool! I passed by a bunch of these while I was in California, but never looked to see what they were all about. What a relief! I’m so sick of having to drink my wine from red solo cups all the time at parties! I actually went to the dollar store and would keep a stemmed glass at my frequent party places. =)
