Let us start out with a formal apology. Over the last 80 Wine of the Weekend emails we have failed to mentioned any of Susana Balbo’s wines. How did this happen?!? She is an amazing woman and one of our favorite winemakers on the planet! Her wines are TOTALLY kickass and for the price they are hard to beat. We’ll chalk it up to forgetting to state the obvious.
The 2006 Crios de Susana Balbo Cabernet Sauvignon hails from a 3,300ft vineyard in the shadows of the massive Andes Mountains. This is a big and bold wine with fruit flavors of currant and plum as deep and intense as the color. This is a lot of wine for the money!
The best part about the Crios wines is they are made to be drank right away. Although it’s possible to hang on to a bottle for a few years, do yourself a favor and screw off the cap (yep – New World-Style bottle) and drink this wine as soon as humanly possible!
Drink like the Argentines with a lightly seared steak, roasted veggies and some empanadas. Mmmmmm…. empanadas.
