2007 Altovinum EvodiaCalatayud, Spain – $12

Like an active talent scout touting the next Hollywood star or Billboard Chart-topper, we’ve stumbled upon the next “it” wine. We’re going out on a bit of a limb here, but this stuff is liquid gold! Introducing the next big-time wine of the moment: the 2007 Altovinum Evodia Garnacha from Spain.

This is a 100% Garnacha from the mountain village of Atea in the Calatayud region of Northeast Spain. This wine doesn’t see any oak, which allows for the bold yet extremely bright fruit flavors to come out. We got juicy, red berries with a bit of spiciness and little to no tannin when we coiffed this Spanish temptress.

This is one of those wines that drinks like a champ, but for some reason, is priced way lower than it could be. From the expert hands of European Cellars comes a wine that has just started to invade the market. Look for it at your favorite wine bar soon.

Drink with some hard Spanish cheese and olives, a nice cut of beef  or whatever you’re whipping up on a cold Monday night.

As of the post date, this wine is available at:

Brix – 1284 Washington St, Boston
Downtown Wine & Spirits – 225 Elm St, Somerville
Whole Foods Market – 340 River St, Cambridge
Wine Emporium – 607 Tremont St, Boston

Had this wine at the Kemper Museum in Kansas City not knowing about it. I won’t say that I was blown over but was pleasantly surprised at the smoothness and yet the slight tannic taste. It went very well with the fish toco I had.
Am going to the local large liquor store to see if I can buy a small quantity.

Enjoy

We finally found this wine at a N.H. Liquor/Wine store in Nashua. It was ‘featured’ there as an ‘up and comer’ and was on sale for $9.99. It was worth the wait and effort! It is delicious and VERY reasonable, given its quality and characteristics.

Keep up the good work of finding these affordable, great wines…

I went to a wine tasting and this was one of the featured wines. I was not impressed with it during the tasting, but after being a bottle after the tasting, I will say that it is now a regular in my collection!
very good,
be patient
