While today feels more like spring than winter, we are actually in the middle of the holiday party season. Whether you’re on the planning committee for the office shindig or simply hosting a small get-together with friends you’ll need a good, affordable white wine with mass appeal.

That’s where the 2008 Weingut Huber Hugo Grüner Veltliner comes in. Light in body with a tangy acidity and flavors of melon and minerals, this is a surprisingly complex wine for the money.

In our Annual Wine Guide we introduced a new system of categorizing wine by situation, so we wanted to break this wine down icon by icon.

Asian Food: A bright acidity coupled with fruit flavors makes this wine Pad Thai’s best friend. It’ll cool down spicy foods and can pair with curry.

Party Wine: It’s a tasty, tasty white that’s cheap enough to buy by the case. It’s also one of those wines that appeals to pretty much anyone who likes white.

Panty Remover: Rocking juicy fruit with melon flavors, this stuff is VERY easy to drink. Before you know it, there’s an empty bottle and a sock hanging from the bedroom door.

Drink liberally at your office party with spring rolls, crab puffs and the hottie from accounting.
