Warre’s OTIMA 10 Yr Tawny

Douro, Portugal $20 (500ml)

Holy crap there are only eight days to Christmas! Are you done shopping? Did you remember your office workers? The interns? The cutie down the hall you’re hoping to spend New Year’s with?

This year our go-to gift wine/ office party-maker/ cutie-wooer is the Warre’s OTIMA 10 Yr Tawny. Port wine is a fortified Portuguese wine, meaning during the fermentation process (yeast eating sugar and producing alcohol) they spike it with brandy which kills the yeast and raises the alcohol to around 20%. It’s a thick wine that is deeply rich and sweet without being cloying.

With a hip new label and bottled in smaller, 500ml bottles this wine is a fantastic stocking stuffer. You can also bring it to dinner and drink before, as an apertif, or after with chocolate dessert. Feel free to sip on this for a while, as Port wine won’t go bad for a solid week after it’s opened.

Drink liberally with your overworked staff assistant, your cousins you rarely get to see or do what our Editor Tyler does and carry a flask full of the stuff to keep warm in the winter.
