Do not torture Dad by making him feign appreciation of another gimmicky tie. Instead, give him something he'll actually enjoy this Father's Day: BBQ and a buzz. This weekend calls for sun, a hot grill and a bottle or three of big, juicy California Zin.
Zinfandel is the quintessential California grape. It loves sitting out all day in the hot, baking sun, but cools off at night when the temperature drops. The combination of big, intense, boldness and ripe fruit makes this varietal perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
For this Sunday's festivities, we chose the 2007 Alexander Valley Vineyard Temptation Zinfandel. Loaded with flavors of cherry and blackberry, this is a wine that truly begs you to pour another glass (hence the label). The winery describes it as "fun-loving and pretty laid back" and we couldn't agree more. And coming in at 14.2% alcohol, it has manly Dad wine written all over it. Feel free to sop up spills with last year's silk monstrosity.
Drink liberally with grilled burgers, juicy steak, BBQ ribs and... well... Dad!
