Behind the old school label and seemingly random placed, difficult to pronounce French words on the bottle is a nice, earthy yet delicate red wine. Winos use the term “rustic” because it’s a bit rough around the edges with a little grittiness. The wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in France’s Southern Rhone Valley (Southwest France) are made with up to 13 different grapes including a splash or two of white grapes like Viognier. While it may seem pricey, Chateauneuf for this price is actually a steal as most bottles start around $50. This stuff is about as “old world” as you get, so it’ll be a lot better if you drink it with food. Go for lamb, a cheese board or steak frites.
