The 40-year-old vines that are used for Ontanon Crianza grow on the slopes of the Sierra Vergas, just south of the River Ebro in Rioja baja. The grapes need the warm summer days to ripen to full maturity but also the cold nights to increase acidity levels. The wines of this mountainous region of Rioja are known for showing crisp acidity as well as an elegant full and dense fruit profile, with notes of mineral and herbal extract from the unique soil type. Savor the subtle and elegant aromas of black cherry with overtones of spice - the 2007 Crianza offers voluptuous fruit but with a delicate framework of natural acidity that opens up and deepens over time. Crianza pairs well with roast chicken, game, and meat.
Bodega Ontanon is a multi-generation, family-owned winery located in Rioja baja. Our 250 hectares (~620 acres) of vineyard land sit high in the Sierra Yerga Mountains outside of the township of Quel, which has been one of Rioja’s outstanding winemaking centers for three centuries. We take great pride in maintaining these vineyards in the most sustainable manner possible, as it is our land that sustains the family heritage and tradition in wine. Our motto is: “Passion for the vine, passion for wine and passion for art.”
