When it comes to winter boozing most people gravitate towards big, brawny, high-alcohol red wines. This is all fine and dandy, but let's not forget there are some white wines out there that can do some serious ass-kicking too.
The 2009 Layers White from Australia is a rich and cheerful bottle that will make you smile from the inside out. The bottle is made by wine legend, Peter Lehmann. Not only does "The Baron of Barossa" make some of Australia's sickest wines, but Lehmann has also provided the driving force behind the growth of high quality wine. Basically, his name is synonymous with ballerness.
Made with a blend of 5 grapes (Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat) this wine is full of ripe, creamy fruit. It goes down smooth with a quality meal, but is also fabulous to sip on after a long day. The wine also rocks a hint of sweetness that's perfect to drive the chill out of even the coldest of bones.
Drink liberally with some take out Chinese, with roasted chicken or while curling up on the couch for a movie on a cold night.
