Our wines express the ego of place - the unique expression of a carefully nurtured piece of land, made manifest in each bottle.
At Bonterra, we take our cues from the land and the fruit. We let them tell us what to do. Our holistic approach to winemaking took root in 1987 when we were experimenting with wine and food pairings. The fruits, vegetables and herbs we used came from our extensive organic garden. The purity, intensity and freshness of the flavors were amazing. From that point on, we committed ourselves to growing grapes organically. Over the years, we've evolved our philosophy based on what we know works. Today our vineyard is an environment of incredible diversity: soil, plants and animals work together to create a web of natural balance where all the elements thrive. Decades of learning and winemaking accolades have reinforced our passionate belief that our organic grapes make better wine.

The name Oreana comes from the grand ranching days of California’s Central Coast. Oreana is a term used by cattle ranchers for an unbranded calf that strays onto your property and is therefore yours to keep. Think of it as found treasure or the renegade spirit of this beautiful region and the wines we produce here. Oreana Winery is known for two things - great wines and fabulous parties. From small batches of Pinot Noir to our sizeable Red Table Wine, Oreana has a wine for everyone. Current production is about 10,000 cases but some lots are as small as 20 cases. Our award winning Pinot program and Sparkling wines continue to generate rave reviews from Wine Spectator, the Wall Street Journal and Wine Enthusiast. We are never too busy to have a good time and all that time spent listening to the grape press and waiting for wine to age gives us lots of opportunities to come up with weird ideas for parties. Previous celebrations have included: Cinema in the Cellar featuring Jaws & King Kong, an Evening of Sea Shanty talent show, The Beaver Moon Harvest Party, the annual RocktoberFest concert series, Weiners & Wine Hot Dog extravaganza, and one time when a guy just played the bagpipes. It was standing room only…
In most cases Epiphany wines are made with grapes from a single vineyard in order to accentuate its unique terroir. Others blend grapes from multiple vineyards in order to add depth and complexity to the final wine.
After evaluating the first few crops from the Fortress Vineyard, the Sniders realized that the fruit from this vineyard had distinctive qualities and with the 2004 harvest, made their first wine under the Fortress Vineyards label – a Sauvignon Blanc made 100% from the Musque Clone. Nils Venge who is well known as an outstanding Napa winemaker began consulting for Fortress Vineyards in 2007. With this change, the Sniders moved their winemaking to Napa. 2009 has proven to be a year of development as the Sniders have recently introduced three new wines made from the 2007 harvest. In addition to the Sauvignon Blanc wine they have been making, they offer Novateur, an off-dry contemporary wine made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, Finale, a late harvest 100% Semillon made in the traditional Sauternes style, and a Petite Sirah – all made from grapes grown on the Fortress Vineyard.
We are located in Mendocino County, 100 miles north of San Francisco. Our tasting room is on Highway 128, a picturesque road that winds past vineyards, sheep ranches and apple orchards before plunging through the redwood forest to emerge at the Mendocino coastline. Every day is Earth Day here and you will find the only winery to grow and produce all eight of the main Bordeaux grapes each as a varietal wine: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere It would be a privilege if you would come visit us for a tour of our organic vineyards and a free tasting when you have the opportunity. Sans Liege is a Rhone varietal project working with fruit from Paso down to Santa Barbara. The concept of "without allegiance" is not one of rebellion but rather an acknowledgment that these varietals do not have a history here on the central coast. With this youth comes a freedom to express the fruit and vineyards the way I see them.
